Issue
121 In this issue we have the first part of our fabulous
Gods of Egypt collection. Cross stitch ancient mythological
deities from the land of the Pyramids. Also this month
we have a stunning Blackwork Italian cathedral and a
selection of gifts with designs based on 19th century
church tiles. Bring back childhood memories with a wonderful
Cross stitch rocking horse, based on a Stevenson Brothers'
dapple grey. There is also a roses and honeysuckle bell
pull with motifs from traditional samplers and a galaxy
of Patchwork-style stars to stitch in the Masterclass.
Feature Designs
Italian
Cathedral Blackwork patterns lend themselves wonderfully
to the depiction of sculpturing or pattern design
on architectural outline drawings. From a distance
the patterns become textural and through losing
their definition, portray a third dimension.
The stitching is easy. The effect is stunning.
Roses
& Honeysuckle This stunning bell pull features a collection
of band designs and motifs from seventeenth
and early eighteenth century samplers. Roses
and honeysuckle were popular choices in embroideries
of those times. The roses are all stylized and
often simplistic with something of a 'folk'
charm about them. The honeysuckle borders are
quite similar to each other, but no two are
the samw in colour of format. To complement
your bell pull, you can also use the motifs
for a band or trinket pot.
Gods
of Egypt Part one of our majestic collection of
the gods from ancient Egypt. In vibrant colours
with a hint of blending filament, stitch these
figures complete with their elaborate costumes
and symbols. Part one features Re, the sun god;
Osiris, god of the dead; Isis, his wife and
goddess of magic; Nephthys, her sister and Khnum,
the great potter and deity of fertility. This
is a large Cross stitch project with a result
to be very proud of.
Riding
High Wooden rocking horses have been around
for centuries, teaching equestrian skills and
providing fun and excitement for children. The
dapple grey has always been a favourite - especially
for the Queen. This Cross stitch design contains
many shades to achieve great detail and a delicate
variegated thread border. Celebrate tradition
and happy memories with your own elegant rocking
horse.
Church
Tiles These striking designs are based on the
19th century floor tiles found in many British
churches. The geometric patterns and fleur-de-lis
motifs are an echo of medieval times.
Cross stitch the card in just one evening, or
the decorative box in around a week. With their
strong, traditional shapes and colours, these
make ideal gifts for fathers, sons - or even the
vicar!
Stars in Your Eyes Stars are not just for Christmas: they
appear in the summer sky too and in patchwork
patterns on many occasions. There is something
that is year-round about patchwork - cosy in
winter, fresh and airy in summer - so taking
the patterns and interpreting them in counted
forms of embroidery was a challenge I was more
than willing to take on.
