Issue
111 Create a blaze of summer colours with a floral
design to use for a cushion or picture. There's a
pretty trinket pot in Pulled work and a tablecloth
with a look of Italian lace. Remember times past with
a vintage steam tractor, or Cross stitch a handsome
country stag. Also another look at using multi-coloured
threads.
Feature Designs
Chinese
Dragon Dragons are very popular motifs in traditional
Chinese embroidery and this handsome example
is an imperial lung dragon. In China dragons
are regarded as benevolent and lucky creatures
and this one has five claws which signifies
his importance and chases a flaming jewel which
symbolizes the universe. Balanced, full of detail
and colour this imposing design will bring a
touch of the orient into your home.
The
First Roses
of Summer Everyone loves roses and, although roses
may now be found in colours ranging from bright
yellow to nearly purple, there is one colour
that will always spring to mind at the mention
of the name - pink. These wonderful traditional
flowers have graced gardens and embroidery design
for centuries. Here we have taken them to adorn
two greetings cards and some lovely items for
the home, but the designs are quite versatile
enough to be used again in many different ways.
West
Sussex House This beautiful lobby entry house in the
warm colours of Greensand stone, set in the
luxuriant hills of Sussex, is just one representative
of the incredible variety of buildings in Britain
constructed of local materials. Its 17th century
style is elegant but not pretentious and the
building has stood the ravages of time by its
strength of construction. Some may dream of
country cottages with roses round the door.
Why not step up a grade and enjoy dreaming of
a style of living that is only partly lost with
the ages in a wonderful house such as this.
Other vernacular houses will follow over the
course of time to lead your thoughts throughout
the land.
A
Sampler for All Occasions A sampler is a wonderful way of recording
a moment in time. Families have many occasions
to celebrate over the years and this sampler can
be used for a wedding, birth, christening - in
fact any important event in the lives of those
closest to you. The delicate apple blossom provides
an all-purpose framework with panels for you to
fill with your own words for a wonderful celebration
heirloom.
Iris
Trio Bearded irises are one of the great joys
of my garden. The variety of colours or shades
within one flower head never ceases to amaze me
and the folds of their petals produce a play of
light that further enhances a magical display.
These three small designs will prove useful for
gifts and cards for garden lovers throughout the
year.
Taking a
look at ...
New Multi-coloured threads... Part
1 Following the run-away success of the
first set of six Anchor Multi-color threads,
Coats Crafts UK have brought out six more blends
of colours for our delight. As before, these
are available in both Pearl no 5 thread and
in stranded cottons. We shall look at both and
at other multi-threads, but thought we would
start with the Pearl no 5 thread which many
of you may not ever have used.
Noughts and
Crosses Take just an oddment of fabric and a spare
evening and a friend or relative will be amazed
at your ability with a needle! Even if you have
never tried this before, why not have a go. It
is quite as therapeutic as other stitching and
you might even surprise yourself.
